Gladwin Cornerstone Baptist Church

Statement of Faith

1.    We believe that the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, was verbally inspired by God, and inerrant in the original         writings, and is of supreme and final authority in faith and life.

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in                                       righteousness:

2 Peter 1:19  We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark                         place, until the day dawn, and the day star arises in your hearts:
20            Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scriptures is of any private interpretation.
21            For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

      Matt. 5:18; Ps. 119:89, 105; Matt. 4:4, 24:35

2.    We believe in God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit

John 15:23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also
24            If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and                               hated both me and my Father.

Matt. 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

      2 Cor. 13:14; 1 Pet. 1:2

3.   We believe in the personality of Satan, that he is the unholy god of this age, the author of all sin, and is destined to                  judgement in the Lake of Fire with all unbelievers.

Matt. 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil                            and his angels.

Rev. 20:10  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and                      shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

      2 Cor. 4:4

4.    We believe that man was created in the image of God, and that he sinned and therefore incurred spiritual and physical        death.

Gen. 1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Gen. 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt                                surely die.

      Rom. 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3

5.     We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and that he is the true God                and true man; and is the only and sufficient mediator between God and man.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2               The same was in the beginning with God
3               All Things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have                            everlasting life.

      John 10:30; Heb. 1:1-3

6.   We believe in the personality of the Holy Spirit and that His ministry is to reveal Christ to men in the regeneration and            sanctification of their souls (John 3:3-7, 116:7-13). We believe that the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” occurs at the instant        of salvation, sealing the believer in Christ and also empowering each Christian for some kind of service to God.

1 Cor. 12:13  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have                       been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Eph. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye                                     believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

      Eph. 4:30; Rom. 8, 2 Cor. 1:22

7.    We believe in the atoning and substitutionary death of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins, and that salvation is received        only through personal faith in Him.

1 Pet. 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by                            whose stripes ye were healed.

      1 Pet. 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

       John 3:16; 2 Cor. 5:21; Is. 53:4-5

8.    We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave, His Ascension into Heaven, and His present                     intercession for the saints.

Luke 24:6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7              Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
      10           And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11          Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into                                heaven, shall so come in the manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

      1 Cor. 15:3-6, 17-20; Eph. 1:19-21; 1 John 2:1, Heb. 7:26

9.   We believe in Christ’s personal, visible, and imminent return to earth prior to the Tribulation; that He is coming to                   receive His own, and to establish His universal reign of righteousness.  We distinguish between the rapture of the                 Church (when He comes in the air – 1 Thes. 4:16-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-54) and His coming to Earth to reign (His revelation),          between which events the tribulation occurs (2 Thes. 1:7-10; Ps. 102:16).

      Acts 1:10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11           Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into                              heaven, shall so come in the manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

1 Thes. 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others                            which have no hope.
14          For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15          For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not                                prevent them which are asleep.
16          For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; and                          the dead in Christ shall arise first:
17          Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so                              shall we ever be with the Lord.

      Luke 1:32-33; Phil. 3:20; Titus 2:13

10.   We believe that Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,                      picturing the essential facts in redemption – the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

Matt. 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14          But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15          And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered                        him.
16          And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he                            saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17    And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

      Rom. 6:3-5; Matt. 28:19-20

11.   We believe that the Lord’s Supper is the commemoration of His death until He comes, and should be preceded always          by solemn self-examination.

Matt. 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this                        is my body.
      27          And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28          For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Mark 14:22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave to them and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23          And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24          And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

      Luke 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:23-28

12.   We believe that a New Testament Church is a body of regenerate, baptized believers, associated for worship,                          instruction, and observance of the church ordinances, to carry out the will of God, and for the edification of the saints;          that the Lord’s Day (the first day of the week) is to be kept sacred for that purpose; for the spreading of the Gospel.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand                          souls.
42          And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Acts 20:7  And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to                                depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

      Heb. 10:24-25; Matt. 28:18-20; Eph. 4:4-6

13.     We believe in the eternal security of the believer.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have                          everlasting life.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not                         come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

      John 6:37-38; John 10:28-29; Rom. 8:38-39; Phil. 1:6

14.     We believe in the congregational form of Church government and in the autonomy of the local church.

Acts 6:3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom ye may                              appoint over this business.
4            But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5            And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Phillip, and                       Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

Acts 15:22 Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with                            Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

Acts 5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28          Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your                        doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
29          Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

      Matt. 18:17

15.   We believe in the bodily resurrection of believers to eternity in Heaven with the Savior, and the bodily resurrection of            unbelievers to eternity in Hell, the Lake of Fire.

Matt. 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you                          from the foundation of the world.

Matt 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and                      his angels:

      Matt. 25:46; Rev. 20:15, 21:1-4

16.   We believe that the sacrificial work of Jesus Christ is sufficient to save every man. God has not foreordained or                      predestined anyone to hell, but is calling for mankind to turn to Him and be saved.

I Jn 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 Tim. 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men,                                        specifically those that believe.

2 Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that                        any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

      John 1:9; John 3:36; Isa. 53

  • 17. We believe the institution of marriage is the sacred union of one man and one woman for their life time as ordained by God in Genesis 2:24. Any other form of marriage or sexual activity outside of marriage such as adultery, homosexuality, extramarital sex or any conduct with the intent to adopt a gender other than one`s birth gender is immoral and a sin against God.

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

    • 18. We believe that all human life is created in the image of God and is precious in God`s sight. We believe that life starts at conception and at that moment is a living human being. Any attempt to take a human life through abortion or euthanasia is a violation of the sanctity of human life and is a sin against God the creator and sustainer of life.

      • Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV)26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
